A Last-Minute Oscar Party
At the beginning of this month my dear friend Katie tried to rope me into creating a bracket for March Madness. She said it would be so fun and I could get all the kids involved too. I truly considered it, and if I hadn’t forgotten about it until the last minute I probably would have. But you see, even if I had picked out every team based on mascot or uniform colors I still wouldn’t have wanted to watch any of the actual games. It’s just not fun for me.
But the Oscars, are a different story. The Oscars are the equivalent of my Superbowl. Just like some people follow teams all year, know the big players and stats and the history of the coaches, I know actors and movies. I try to watch as many Oscar-nominated films as I can before the big day, and this year it’s even more fun because Roman is totally invested too- he wants to become a filmmaker. As we watch we talk about camera angles and cinematics and the acting choices. We are both totally in our element and it is SO. MUCH. FUN!
So yesterday I decided pretty last minute that we are not only going to watch the Oscars but we are going to have a small-scale, laid-back Oscar party and we all couldn’t be more excited!

The Day-Of Plan
-We are going to kick things off with our very own red carpet. Everyone is going to get dressed up and I am going to interview them all on Instagram!
-Next, we are going to give out our own awards! I have procured one Barbie-style dolls from the Dollar Store and today I will be spray painting them gold. I also bought some celebratory notecards for our presenters to read off the winners from.
-Red Carpet shows are up next! We are going to watch the Red Carpet coverage as we add our own commentary on this year’s outfits. (which we will also likely be posting on IG)
-Yesterday I sent over Vanity Fair’s Official Printable Ballot to Staples to have copies printed for everyone to fill out (since my printer is broken). Everyone will be making their selections prior to the show starting, which I have a feeling will incite some silly competition and also help people to stay interested in the show as we watch.
-During the show I will be following along with Jamie Golden’s Live Tweets.
The Food
-We grabbed gold and black napkins and plates from Walmart (which is now officially cheaper than the Dollar store) along with “fancy” plastic wine glasses.
-Hors d’oeuvres are on the menu for dinner-
Popcorn
Movie Candy for dessert
Sparkling Lemonade with Strawberries
